Norway – Svolvaer, Lofoten Islands

After staying 3 nights in the southern part of Lofoten, I planned to stay in the northern part at Svolvaer for the next 2 nights. However, I was checking the aurora forecast at NOAA and it was expecting a solar storm in 2 days with KP index of 7+! I told Jason about the news and we decided to come back to the southern part on our last night to try our luck…the southern part has more photo spots in my opinion. I checked and there were rooms available at Eliassen Rorbuer so I booked!

It was mostly rainy on our way to Svolvaer so we didn’t stop for any photos, we did mark the photo spots on the map so we could visit them the next day. Along the way, we stopped at a few supermarkets to check out their stamps. For lunch, we went to Sakura Lofoten Svolvær and enjoyed their sushi buffet. It was excellent value and a pretty good variety of sushi and a dish of Thai spicy chicken with white rice.

After lunch, we drove to Svinøya Rorbuer and checked in. Our apartment was spacious:

Their shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were all-in-one and looked cheap!

We walked around the property to take photos:

Across from the hotel was a shipyard which, I think, ruined the view.

The hotel is located on an island from the main town and we walked to the bridge to take those photos:

The hotel’s reception area is a museum with lots of artifacts from its fishing village days.

Red cabins of the hotel:

Fish drying racks:

Overwater cabins!!!

It started to rain again so we ran back to our apartment to rest. For dinner, we went to Restaurant Nihao Lofoten. We parked at the public parking lot near the restaurant and walked over. We didn’t have a reservation but got a table right away since we were early. We were expecting Chinese take-out quality but the food turned out to be very tasty even with limited ingredients! We ordered so much that the waiter told us that LOL! But after a few days of Western food, I was craving for rice and stir-fried vegetables!

We managed to finish the dishes hahahaha! Svolvaer is a big town and not as picturesque as the smaller fishing villages in southern Lofoten.
